Why passport validity matters before you travel

Why passport validity matters

Your passport’s expiry date is not always the only date that matters.

A passport may still be valid on the day you travel while falling short of a destination’s entry requirements. Some destinations require the document to remain valid beyond the dates of the trip, and the rule can depend on both the destination and the passport you are travelling with.

Check the rule for your actual passport

Avoid relying only on general travel advice or what applied to another traveller.

Entry requirements can vary by nationality, travel document and destination. When possible, check the rule against an official immigration authority, foreign ministry, embassy or other government source.

Trefeo shows passport-specific entry guidance alongside its source and verification status where that information is available.

Check again before departure

Entry rules can change after a trip has been planned.

A requirement that was correct when you booked may not be the same close to departure. Rechecking the official source shortly before travel reduces the chance of relying on outdated information.

Treat readiness as a process

Knowing the requirement is only the first step.

Your readiness should reflect what you have actually checked and prepared — not simply what Trefeo knows about the destination. When an entry requirement applies to your trip, confirm it against the official source and complete the relevant preparation before marking it ready.
